Extra-Curricular Activities
Extra-Curricular Activities are a vital part of the life of Pedare Christian College. Being involved in the extra-curricular life of the College gives all students the opportunity to feel a part of our community, gain greater enjoyment from their schooling, and establish friendships. Studies in this area have also shown that students involved in Extra-Curricular Activities perform better in the classroom. At Pedare Christian College, we run an inclusive, non-compulsory Extra-Curricular Program, but encourage all students to be involved. Students can choose activities from the following areas:
- Activity Clubs - Chess, Future Problem Solving, Pedal Prix
- Community Service – Toc H, College Magazine
- Debating
- Music – Ensembles, Bands, Choirs, Productions
- Sport
Students are asked to register their interest and nominate for the activities they would like to be involved in. Teams and groups will run where there is sufficient commitment from students. Staff and Old Scholars play a key role in the coaching, managing and supervision of teams and positive parental help in these areas is also appreciated. We value highly student commitment to the Extra-Curricular activity they are involved in and ask parents and guardians to encourage their child/children to honour this commitment.
Sport
We have a healthy and positive sporting culture at the Surrey Farm Campus. Our Year 6-12 students are offered many different sporting opportunities throughout the College year, and those who participate enjoy representing the College in this area.
Sport is primarily run on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. We compete in competitions in the following associations:
- Independent Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Boys and Girls, Years 6-12
- SA Catholic Girls Secondary School Sports Association (SACSSGSA) Girls, Years 8-12
Each of these associations offer strong competitions that are challenging in the true spirit of school sport, and we are pleased to be able to offer these sporting opportunities to our students. We also enjoy extensive involvement and success in swimming, athletics, cross-country and State-wide Knockout competitions and tournaments throughout the College year. These are available for both boys and girls in the SAPSASSA (Primary), SASSSA (Secondary) and SACSA (Primary and Secondary) competitions.
The various sporting opportunities offered through our associations are listed below. Pedare Christian College has built a reputation for strong sporting achievement within a Christ-centred environment. Our students are well recognised and appreciated for their excellent commitment and values exhibited in the sporting arena.
