Pedare Students Win State Battle of the Bands

Four Pedare students are the SA winners of the Global Battle of the Bands competition. They will be travelling to Sydney to compete on 3 November 2008 against the other states/territories for the Australia title.

If successful, they will fly to London to compete in December this year at the ‘Global Battle of the Bands’. The winners receive a $100,000 US recording contract.

Sam Mannix (Year 12), Danny Mannix (Year 12), Liam McAndie (Year 12), and Hayden Leiper (Year 11) played in their band “Purgatory” at The Cavern Club in the city on 12 August 2008 and the winners were announced that night.

Vocal and Instrumental Program

Vocal and instrumental lessons with private music teachers during school hours are available for all students at Pedare. Group lessons are also available for certain instruments. Students who are currently having, or who wish to continue, lessons with external private teachers may do so.

Lessons are currently available in: recorder, flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone, violin, cello, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, and voice.

The College can advise about instrument hire or purchase of instruments.

Classroom Music Program

Junior Schooling

Specialist teachers provide practical, listening and creative music activities at all year levels R – 5.

Middle Schooling

Music is offered at all year levels as part of the Arts Curriculum.  Students experience music of various styles, forms and cultures in both practical and listening activities.  Students use music technology in both the keyboard laboratory and specialist music computer rooms.

An advanced semester course is offered at Year 9 to instrumental players and singers.  These students focus more on the development of performance skills.

Senior Schooling

Music is an elective subject in Senior Schooling where students undertake a practical study on an instrument or in voice.  Students study musicianship, music history, analysis, arranging and composing and using music technology.

At Stage 2 level (Year 12) students can choose from various options (up to four)

Extra - Curricular Music

Pedare Christian College offers many opportunities for students to make music outside the classroom.

These include: concert bands, stage bands, various vocal and choral groups, string ensemble, woodwind ensemble, worship band, rock bands, musical productions.

Musical performances regularly take place at concerts, in Community Chapels, assemblies, at the Junior Schooling Campus, Village Shopping Centre and Tea Tree Plaza, and also for Senior Citizens. Our ensembles have toured both in South Australia and interstate.

Our biennial musical productions are performed in the Golden Grove Arts Theatre. The Pedare Chapel is an excellent performing facility.
