The Robotics Camp Program is all about having fun while constructing robots and structures. At Pedare RoboCamps, students engage in hands-on activities in the field of robotics. Students explore engineering concepts through the use of motors, sensors, and programming. We currently offer different programs throughout the year that allows for various age/skill levels.
Our programs are oriented around a hands-on experience for students. The teaching environment focuses on fun and challenging team-based projects and mini-projects. RoboCamps are facilitated by Pedare staff and members of the Pedare 6204 FRC robotics team.
Using Lego Mindstrom NXT & EV3 kits, students create their own mobile robots with the wide range of Lego pieces, motors, and sensors. Students are introduced to standard robot designs and encouraged to explore their own modification and/or original designs.
Using a graphical programming language NXT-G, students are taught how to control their mobile robots. The beginner programs cover basic programming techniques to provide mobility and simple behaviours for a mobile robot. The advanced programs re-cap existing knowledge presented from the beginner levels with expansion to more complicated behaviours and higher-level programming techniques.
With the range of pieces and components, the robot designs are only limited by the creativity of the student. Students are encouraged to think ‘outside of the box’ when it comes to the design of their robot. With a competition being the final task, students will experiment with numerous physical and programmatic designs to attempt to complete the competition goals in the best manner.
Students are required to complete multiple mini-tasks. Each of the tasks are designed to introduce students to a common problem associated with robotics. These tasks require students to apply their knowledge gained from the short lectures, hands-on tasks, and team experiments to achieve the goals of the task.

Emil Zankov (RoboCamp Organiser) has been a classroom Digital Technologies teacher for 9 years and involved with the LEGO League for the last 6 years. Recently Pedare expanded into the FRC Robotics competition and is continuing to look at progressive pathways for students to continue developing rich STEM based content with robotics.
