Promoting a Cooperative Spirit and a Sense of Belonging

Our Community system promotes a safe and nurturing environment for our students and is the core element of our Pastoral Care. Our focus is on promoting spiritual development, social development, leadership training, pastoral care and community service.

The College is divided into five pastoral Communities: Brooklyn, Eldergreen, Greenwith, Hillcott and Surrey - all named after the original farms in the Golden Grove area.

This system provides:

  • The opportunity to build deeper relationships
  • A greater awareness of each other’s needs
  • The opportunity for students to support a younger or older person and give leadership
  • The fostering of mutual respect for all members of the school
  • The acknowledgment of different responsibilities and privileges that come from age differences
  • The promotion of positive study habits, disciplines and appropriate behaviours.

Junior School Community

At the Junior School, the Core Group teachers are primarily responsible for the pastoral care of their students.

Middle and Senior Schools Community

To cater for the specific needs at each stage of our students’ development, Middle School Home Groups consist of students from Years 6 to 9 while Senior School Home Groups are comprised of students from Years 10 to 12. This model also increases the opportunity for students to build strong relationships and to promote continuity in communication between the College and home.

At the Middle and Senior Schools, each Community is led by a Community Coordinator who, together with the Home Group teachers, are responsible for the pastoral welfare of the students within their Community and who oversee the coordination of a range of activities throughout the year.
