Scripture & Neuroscience

Categories: General |

I love that there are certain “life hacks” that we find in scripture. As we learn more about the way our brain functions, we can see just why God recommended them in the first place. Neuroplasticity is the phenomenon where our brains form new neural circuits through repetition, leading to actions being automatic, rather than conscious. Winter Olympic medallist, Eileen Gu, shows the power of neuroscience, not just in elite sport, but for everyone: “With neuroplasticity on my side, I can become exactly who I want to be”.

Scripture encourages us to always give thanks (1 Thes 5:18, Eph 5:20), always rejoice (2 Cor 6:10, Phil 4:4, 1 Thes 5:16), always speak graciously (Col 4:6) and always be gentle (Titus 3:2). If we start with making the repeated choice to be thankful, to rejoice, to be gracious and gentle, they will become responses to everyday life.
